Mrs. John Ritz of Remsen Dies
Mother of Five Children Succumbs to Heart Disease in Hospital Here.

Remsen Bell-Enterprise: The John Ritz home was thrown into sorrow last Thursday afternoon when death claimed Mrs Ritz after a prolonged sickness, the immediate cause being heart trouble, with which she had been a periodical sufferer for many years and which had kept her confined to the sick room for the last 12 months. Mrs. Ritz died in the Sacred Heart hospital, Le Mars. She was 49 years old, and was a native of this community.

Mrs. Ritz had been afflicted with heart trouble for many years, but until a year ago was always able to attend to her household duties. Last August her condition suddenly took a serious turn, and from that time she was almost constantly confined to the sick room. Despite excellent medical care and complete rest, her strength gradually faded and on June 13 of this year she was taken to the hospital. She experienced considerable relief and five weeks ago was able to return to her home although her condition was still grave, but a week later she was obliged to return to the hospital. On Saturday, August 3, the birth of a daughter brought on another grave turn of her condition and after that time her physicians held out but little hope for her recovery. The end came on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.

Margaret Loutsch was born on a farm seven miles southwest of Remsen on January 15, 1890 to John and Susanna (Hanson) Loutsch, pioneer residents of the county. She remained home with her parents, attending the rural schools and later St. Mary's parochial school in Remsen.

She was united in marriage to John Rltz on November 18, 1913 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Ritz have continuously been residents of Remsen, and the deceased was well known and highly esteemed throughout this part of the county.

Mrs. Ritz was the mother of five children, and throughout her married life she labored constantly toward the proper rearing of her little family, devoting her efforts in conformity with her earlier christian teachings and ministering carefully to the needs of those under her charge.

She was a woman of amiable disposition, and was a devoted wife, mother and friend. Through her numerous admirable traits she indered herself to a host of friends, all of whom join in extending their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved husband and children over their irreparable loss.

Mrs. Ritz was a member of Mary of Lourdes court, Women's Catholic Order of Foresters and in the affairs of this organization, as well as in matters pertaining to her church, she took a hearty interest and gave her support. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and was devout in the practice of its principles. The many friends of the deceased, as well as the members of the immediate family, feel her early departure keenly, and especially does sympathy go toward the family of five little children who have thus been bereft of the guidance and love of a most devoted mother.

Besides her sorrowing husband, those left to mourn her death are the following children: Edward, 15; John Jr., 13; Silas, nine; Lorraine, six, and Jeanette, the infant who is now but four weeks old. Lorraine, the fourth child, will remember her sixth birthday anniversary as the day that her mother was given to the grave.

Surviving also are the deceased's father, John Loutsch, Sr., and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Schroeder, Remsen; Dominic Loutsch, Mrs. Kate Ruba, John Loutsch, Jr., and Mike Loutsch, all of Remsen; Emil Loutsch, of Granville, and Andrew Loutsch of Elkton, S. D.

The funeral was held Monday morning with solemn requiem high mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church and was largely attended. The mass was read by the Rev. Anthony Sigwarth, of Dubuque, a cousin of the deceased, as celebrant; the Rev. H. J. Schleier as deacon, and the Rev. P. M. Mattas, as sub-deacon. Father Schleier gave a splendid sermon.

Pall bearers were: M. H. Niggeling, John Wiebersch, Ed Deubel, Walter Dixon, Earl Hanno and Mike Beelner.

Relatives from a distance who came to attend the funeral are: The Rev. Anthony Sigwarth, and Mrs. Elizabeth Hansen, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Poncelet and children, Howard, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Loutsch and children, Elkton, S. D., and Mrs. Kate Sigwarth and sons, Frank and John, Mrs. John Hoblit, Frank, Andrew, William and Elizabeth Hansen, and Mrs. Kate Link, of Balltown, Iowa.
