Philip Barton, a prominent citizen of Bedford county, died suddenly, of heart disease, at the home of his neighbor, W.S. Millin, in East Providence township, on Saturday. The deceased was about seventy-five years old. He was a son of George and Catharine Barton and was born in Brush Creek Valley, Fulton county. About thirty years ago he removed to East Providence township and lived there up to the time of his death, following the occupation of a farmer. Several years before he moved to Bedford county he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Greenland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Greenland, of Fulton county. Mr. Barton is survived by his wife. He was the last member of his family. He was an honest, upright man and by thrift and industry accumulated considerable means. The funeral services were held on Wednesday in the Lutheran church at Ray's Hill. Interment in the graveyard nearby.

Mrs. Philip Barton recently had a very nice monument erected at the grave of her husband in the cemetery of the Lutheran church at this place. The material is of gray granite and is among the finest in the yard.
