U.S. Congressman. He attended private schools, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1886 and commenced to practice law in Lake Charles, Louisiana. As an active delegate to the Louisiana State constitutional conventions, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving (1903-13). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 78.
