In tracing the life story of Jerome Johnson it is necessary to turn back to the 12th of January 1846, when he became a part of the good fortune of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Johnson of Marcellus. He was the third in a family of five children who came to grace that happy and religious home circle. In 1868, he married Harriet Holcomb of Rose Valley, Wayne County, N.Y. They settled down on the place where the Nightingales now reside. Thirteen years later, they moved on South Hill, Marcellus, where Mr. johnson resided until his passing. Thirteen years ago the 7th day of May, his loving wife passed on. Since then he and his son Irving had lived together, keeping up the home. Mr. Johnson was a retiring nature, with strong domestic tendencies, of home-loving disposition. In the quiet of his own home, among his family, he found his greatest joy and satisfaction. In 1878 he became a member of Marcellus Methodist Church. He has always been an active member and a loyal supporter of his church. He was not only loyal to his church but was always willing to help anyone who was in need and enjoyed work of this nature.
He leaves to mourn one daughter, Mrs. Mary Durgey, two sons, Irving and Eugene Johnson, six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren all of Marcellus. Those who came from out of town to attend the funeral included a sister, Mrs. Nettie Maltby and son James of Weedsport: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eaton and son of Lafayette: Mrs. Grace Moore of Apulia, Edward and William Roth of Cortland, Mrs. Sarah Moth and Mr. and Mrs. George Moth of North Manlius.
