OAKLAND,MARYLAND -- H. Rex Teagarden, age 72, of 214 N. Tenth St., Oakland, died on Saturday, July 3, at his home.

He was born May 16, 1927, in Wheeling, W.Va., and was a son of the late Harold O. Teagarden and Mabel (Morgan) Teagarden.

Mr. Teagarden retired from the Garrett National Bank with 32 years' service and served as vice president and cashier. He was then employed by Garrettland Realty for 12 years. Mr. Teagarden was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Mountain Lake Independent Baptist Church, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School for Bank Administration, and the International Bible Memory Association. He was also a member of the American Red Cross and was a 12-gallon blood donor, a member of Oakland Lodge #192 A.F. & A.M., and was one of the founding members of the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad, where he served for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sue (Filsinger) Teagarden; one son, Sherwin R. Teagarden, Oakland; three daughters, Sharon A. Watson, York, Pa., Lisa L. Durst, Swanton, and Lori A. Maffett, Lynchburg, Va.; two brothers, Kenneth Teagarden, Parsons, W.Va., and Donald Teagarden, Mountain Lake Park; two sisters, Evelyn Biser, Oakland, and Bonita Snyder, Mountain Lake Park; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Mountain Lake Independent Baptist Church, Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Leatherman officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church one-half hour prior to the services.

Military honors will be accorded at graveside by various local veterans organizations.

The family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Garrett County.
