Major League Baseball Team Owner. Executive. A millionaire from an inheritance from his father, he established the St. Louis Maroons baseball team and co-founded the the Union Association League in 1884, serving as president of both. The Union Association folded after a year, and his Maroons team, which had won the Union Association pennant, joined the National League for the next year. The team encountered much better competition there, and after is finished in the bottom standings in 1885 and 1886, Henry Lucas sold the team to the league (which in turn sold it again to John T. Bush, who moved it to Indianapolis, Indiana). He later invested on other sports ventures, including a cycling velodrome in St. Louis. He lost money on the Maroons team, and would go into debt later in his life. When he died he was working as a civil servant in St. Louis with a small salary.
