Joe served as a Techical Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during World War II where he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

Joe grew up working on a series of his family's farms in the Rosenberg area. Druing World War II her served as a Technical Sergeant in the 390th Bombardment Group on combat duty in the Europen Theater of Operations. Joe received an honorable with wecorations and citations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters and the Europen-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars.

He married Lillian Luedeke of Pleak on November 27, 1944 and they settled in Houston. Joe became an electrician and worked for Whitaker Electric Company for the next 30 years. The family moved to Pearland in 1962, where Joe lived the rest of his life.

After retirement, joe stayed busy with his tractors, his many porjects and teaching his grandsons how to work. He enjoyed traveling around the country to annual reunions of his bomber group. He and Lillian were members of several dance clubs in the Rosenberg, Needville and Sealy areas, where they enjoyed dancing for many years together with good friends.

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers, American Leagion and Master Mason C.B. Spencer Lodge 1384.
