Charles (Lindy) Lindbergh Deems, 79, of Coal Center, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006, in his home.
He was born June 11, 1927, in West Pike Run Township, Clover Hill, a son of John Nelson and Sarah Margaret Wergin Deems.
Mr. Deems was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater and occupation of Japan. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Deems was a member of Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705 of Centerville.
He was a member and trustee of Grace United Methodist Church, a 30 year member and past president of Beallsville, Centerville and Richeyville Lions Club and was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient. He was a former supervisor of West Pike Run Township and a member of the former West Pike Run Garage (Grange??).
On November 14, 1952, he married Clara Harris Deems, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Connie Palfrey and husband Frank of coal Center; a son, Charles Lynn Deems of coal Center; three grandsons, Frank Palfrey Jr. and wife Suzanne of Indiana, Eric Palfrey of Summerville, W. Va., and Lyndon Palfrey and wife Natalie of McMurray; a grand-daughter, Cara Palfrey of Clover Hill; four great-grandchildren, Lily, Sadie, Tyler and Avery Palfrey; two brothers, Eugene Deems of Beallsville and Darrell Deems and wife Jane of Scenery Hill; five sisters, Wanda Colvin and husband Raymond of Charleroi, Edie Sosnak and husband Bernard of Coal Center, Norma Dennis of Monongahela, Kaye Mowrey and husband John of Bethel Park, and Karen Walsh and husband Charles of Annapolis, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, John N. "Bub" Deems Jr., who died September 6, 2005.
