Vernett "Buzz" Hiel, 85, of 625 N. Jackson St. died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
Born July 24, 1913, in Avon to John and Lena Myers Hiel, he married Pauline Copeland in 1943. She died in September 1974. He later married Vivian King on March 20, 1982, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Darwyn of California; two daughters, Jacqueline Maxwell of Abingdon and Rebecca Popejoy of Minot, N.D.; one brother, Schneider of Galesburg; and one sister, Genevieve Botkin of Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, two brothers and one sister.
He was a self-employed contractor in Bushnell. He was Bushnell Township Road Commissioner for 35 years, retiring in 1993. He was a 30-year member of Bushnell Independent Order of Odd Fellows and also a member of the Peoria Eagles and Farmington Moose Lodge.
Burial will be in Bushnell Cemetery.
