As a child, she survived the Great Depression with her family as itinerant field workers, picking cotton and living in a tent. In 1938, she and her family moved to San Bernardino, CA. She graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1942 and worked as a Bookkeeper for several business firms in the San Bernardino area.
When World War II ended, she met Jack Gaffney, a returning US Army Air Corps veteran and they were married on November 20, 1945. She and Jack had two sons and Jeannette became a full time Mom and housewife.
They lived in San Bernardino, Riverside and Moreno Valley. In the last year, she and Jack moved into an assisted living home in Cathedral City, CA due to health issues. Jan was a wonderful person with a special love for pets of all types. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, golfing, camping, and playing games. She and Jack also enjoyed going to the theater and spending time with their family.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack Gaffney and her two sons and their wives, Dr. Jeffrey Gaffney and Dr. Nancy Marley from Benton, Arkansas and Jon Gaffney and Dr. Dianne Gaffney from La Quinta, CA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Colleen Gaffney, Juliet Rohrer, Ryan Gaffney, Kelley Gaffney and Scott Fisher and six great grandchildren.
