Earl was the son of Jabez K. "J.K." Osgerby and his first wife Eliza Lusettia "Lusettie" Osgerby. After earning his Master's Degree in research chemistry at the University of Michigan in 1911, Earl was employed by the National Carbon Company in Grasselli, West Virginia. However, he contracted tuberculosis, and his illness forced him to return to Michigan, where he and Carrie settled in Jackson. From this time on, Carrie's mother, widowed since 1891, lived with Earl and Carrie until her death in 1942.
In early 1921 Earl was hospitalized at Fairmount, the Kalamazoo County TB Hospital, so the family moved from Jackson to Kalamazoo.
After the move to Kalamazoo, Carrie took extension courses from the University of Michigan and attended summer school sessions there. She was secretary of the First Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo for many years.
Carrie and Earl had two children:
1) Ruth Harding Osgerby (1914-1998), who married Laurence E. "Larry" Strong;
2) Helen Caroline Ogerby (1919-1922).
Earl died of pulmonary tuberculosis in Kalamazoo on May 14, 1940, and Carrie passed away in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana on May 2, 1972. Both are buried in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo.
