JACKSONVILLE -- Robert Edgar Watkins, 66, of Jacksonville, formerly of Fort Bragg, died Saturday in Onlsow Memorial Hospital.

He retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel and worked for the North Carolina Department of Human Resources.

The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Jacksonville by the Rev. John McKee. Burial with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Post Cemetery at Fort Bragg.

Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife, Ann M. Watkins of the home; three daughters, Glenda Craft of Fayetteville, Lisa Wellmon of Fort Polk, La., and Bobbi Joe Oppitz of Baltimore; two sons, Jim Watkins of Georgia and Ed Watkins of Raleigh; three sisters, Jo Ann Smith of Greenville, Judy Davis of Social Circle, Ga., and Patsy Freeman of Orangeburg, S.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 2507 N. Marine Blvd., Jacksonville, N.C. 28540.
