MARTIN, John M. 100, passed away in the Maples Home for Seniors, Tavistock on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. He was born in Wellesley Township, Waterloo County on November 16, 1910, a son of the late John F. and Elizabeth Martin. He had ministered in Brethren Assemblies as an itinerant preacher throughout Ontario and beyond for over seventy years. John is survived by his wife, the former Melissa Brubacher, whom he married on May 8, 1932; five children, Ruth Martin of St. Agatha, Doris and husband Lorne Clarke of Oakville, Timothy and wife Shelley Martin of Burlington, Eleanor and husband Garry Jenkins of Tavistock, Murray and wife Ruth Martin of Wilton, Conn., U.S.A.; daughters-in-law, Laura Martin of Renfrew, Mary Martin of Aurora; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Ernie Martin (October 2004) and Neil Martin (March 2004). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Ivan and Elizabeth Martin, Clayton and Viola Martin, Addison and Hannah Martin, Amsey and Sarah Martin, Noah and Emma Martin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Elam Gingrich, Elvina and Onias Clemmer, Lydian and Owen Bauman and three sisters in infancy. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home , 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 7-9 p.m. The casket will be open at Hawkesville Cemetery on Monday, May 9, 2011 from 10 a.m. until a graveside committal service at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held in Tavistock Mennonite Church on Monday at 3 p.m. with a reception following. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Everyday Publications, the Canadian Cancer Society or Conestoga Bible Camp would be appreciated and may be made through the Francis Funeral Home by calling 1-519-655-2431.
