Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Richard, son of Allen and Helen Hale, was raised in Oakville, Conn. Early education was in the Oakville school system and he later attended Woodbury High School in Woodbury, Conn. He was married to the love of his life, Miriam Cutler, and they raised their four sons in Boynton Beach, Fla.
Richard spent many years in the construction field until a back injury forced his early retirement. His dream to own a farm was realized in Fort Drum, Fla., where he raised prize-winning cattle which he showed at 4-H competitions. Richard and Miriam loved their country living and raised all kinds of God's creatures.
After Miriam's death in 1996, Richard continued life in Fort Drum until his death. He will be joining Miriam in heaven and will have 14 years of explaining to do.
Surviving are his sons, Richard and his wife, Lori, of Shalimar, Fla., and Glenn and his wife, Nancy, and William, all of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Brian and his wife, Angela, of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lesley, Allison, Richard, Kimberly and Adam; and a great-granddaughter, Shaelyn Maida. Richard was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Allen Hale. Also surviving are three sisters, Doris Pipkin and her husband, Bob, of LaQuinta, Calif., Donna Geddes of Bethlehem, and Frances Dresser and her husband, Richard, of Morgan Hill, Calif.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Platt Road, Watertown, at 10 a.m.
