Since his brother James was born in 1837 and in a different month, it is likely that John was born in 1838 instead of 1837.
His family moved to Brown Co., Indiana by 1841 and he grew up there. After the death of his mother in 1847, he and his siblings were boarded out in different homes in the area. His father died a few years later.
Based on prior research he was a Civil War veteran. But, his file and service information need to be obtained to verify the details.
He is thought to have lived in Colorado for a while as well.
