Hazel Wilkening, 94, of State Center, died early Saturday morning, August 29, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Services were held Tuesday at St Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. The Rev Mark Holmes officiated. Burial followed at Hillside cemetery.

She was born north of Colo on December 1, 1897, the daughter of William and Idella Etnier Arnold. She received her education in the Byer's Country School in Story County. On November 7, 1917 she was married to Henry Christian Wilkening in St Paul's Parsonage in State Center. They live in State Center all their married lives.

She was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church, WELCA, the American Legion Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors of America.

Survivors include two daughters, Marion (Mrs Homer) Harrison, Marshalltown, and Evelyn (Mrs Howard) Weuve, State Center; two sons, Virgil and Ronald, both of State Center; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on January 13, 1975; a son, Dwight; a great grandson, Steven Weuve, four sisters and three brothers.
