Son of Ralph L. Jr. and Jennie A. (Walker) Thornton. He married Mardell E. Peake April 1, 1951, in Peoria, Ill. She survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Mardona (William) Shay; one son, Donald L. (Geaneen) Thornton Jr.; two grandsons, Kyle Shay and Kavan Shay; and one sister-in-law, Marlene Noll.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald worked 31 years for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1983. He was a former Bartonville Village Board trustee, serving for eight years.
