DAVENPORT, Iowa – Earl Eugene Eis, 77, of Davenport, died Saturday, September 25, 2010, at Genesis East Hospital, Davenport, following an extended illness.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Memorials may be made to a memorial fund for Earl's grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the funeral home. Casketbearers will be Mike VanWey, Don Jacobs, Ron Wagner, Doug Ripperger, Ron Ripperger and Marvin Honts. Honorary Casketbearers will be Brian Stock, Michael Lueth, Robert Eis Jr., David Weiland, Richard Honts and Al Ripperger. Burial will take place in Parr Cemetery. Earl was born on October 15, 1932, the son of Lester ‘Jim' and Lillian Figgins Eis, in the Eis house near Pleasant Prairie in rural Muscatine County. He married Vera A. Hull on November 24, 1959, in Muscatine.

Earl attended Melpine School.

He was a Korean War veteran serving in the US Army. He retired from International Harvester Farmall Plant, Rock Island, Illinois, in 1986 after 32 years.

He was a member of the Salvation Army Church, Davenport Corps.

He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors in the yard on his Cub Cadet. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, neighbor and friend.

Earl will be deeply missed by his wife, Vera A. Eis, of Davenport; one son, Steven Eis, of Davenport; one daughter, Pamela Robertson and her husband Darin, of Blue Grass; three grandchildren, Brandon Eis, Kari Lee Robertson and Adam Robertson; four sisters, Betty VanWey and Grace Honts of Muscatine, Nancy Ripperger and husband Al, of Blue Grass, Lorraine Weiland, of Snohomish, Washington; one step-brother, Marvin Franklin and wife Dorothy, of Muscatine; three step-sisters, Maxine Wilson, Norma Faulkner, and Marilyn McCleary all of Muscatine; and his dog Hank Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Alfred ‘Bud' Franklin; three brothers, Walter Eis, Lester Eis and Robert Eis; one sister, Wanda Honts; one step-brother, Glenn Franklin; one step-sister, Mona Nichols; four brothers-in-laws, Robert Honts, Kenny Weiland, Dennis VanWey and Virgil Hull.
