Loretta L. "Luella" Asche, 93 of Papillion, Nebraska, (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska) died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Michael Klatt officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Leigh, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 AM on Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.

Ms. Asche was born December 7, 1917, to Gustave and Clara (Loseke) Asche on the family farm in Stanton County NE. She attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and was a 1935 graduate of Leigh High School. She graduated from Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing cum laude from the Municipal University of Omaha in 1953. She was a member of Gamma Pi Sigma for outstanding scholarship in chemistry. She received her Masters of Arts degree from the Municipal University of Omaha in 1960.

Her career path included employment at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE, Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, CO, as an office nurse for Dr. Hubert Kuper in Leigh, NE, as an industrial nurse at Western Electric in Omaha, NE and later moved into production management there. She retired from Western Electric after 25 years of service. After retirement she resided in Columbus, NE, where she was employed at Columbus Middle School and volunteered at the Columbus Community Hospital.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE, serving on the Altar Guild and Stewardship Committee. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her great nieces and nephews, and shopping.

Brother - Gordon (Mabel) Asche of Lincoln, NE
Nephew - Darrell (Pat) Asche of Lincoln, NE
Nephew - Ron (Ruth) Asche of Brighton, CO
Niece - Lori (Tom) Humlicek of Lincoln, NE
Eight great nieces and nephews and nine great-great nieces and nephews
