Dorothy L. Jacobson was born September 28, 1923 in Clay County, SD to parents Charles and Opal (Wilson) Smith. She died May 1, 2011 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 3 days.
Dorothy attended Glenwood Country School. She married Lawrence Jacobson on September 7, 1947. Over the years Dorothy had worked at the Vogue Theater, Otis Electronics in Hawarden, IA, Farmers Union Coop as a secretary and at Bethesda Nursing Home as a dietary aid.
Dorothy was currently a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Beresford where she was a past member of the Choir. She also belonged to the Prairie Pals extension club and was involved with the Gothland Pioneers 4-H club. Dorothy loved to work in her garden and enjoyed bowling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Colleen (Johnson) Jacobson, her brother Arnold Smith and his wife Florence, and a brother Donald in infancy.
Those who survive are three children, Terry Jacobson of Brookings, Larry Jacobson and wife Shirley of Beresford and Judy Erickson and husband Curtis of Beresford; 7 grandchildren, David (Camille) Jacobson, Volga, Jeffrey (Liza) Jacobson, Brookings, Andrea Jacobson, Brookings, Sasha (Josh) Huether, Beresford, Kester (Todd) Hollrock, Lake Placid, NY, Eli Erickson and fiancé Kayla of Beresford, and Scott Jacobson, Huron; 4 great grandchildren; sister Virgina Bovill and husband Mike of Beresford; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Zion United Methodist Church in Beresford with burial to follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Wednesday from 4:30 to 7:30 and a prayer service at 7:00PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
