Mrs. Wehnert, Native of Area, Dies Dec. 29th
Mrs. Bessie Congdon Wehnert, 75, of Laurel Place, died December 29 in Rome Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Whitestown, the daughter of George and Cora Wood Gates. She attended school in Harts Hill and was a graduate of the Utica School of Commerce.
She was married to Archie Congdon in 1913. The couple lived in Clinton for many years.
She was married to Andrew Wehnert in 1951. For the past 18 years the couple had resided here.
She was employed by Oneida Community and the Boston Store for many years before her retirement in 1956. Mrs. Wehnert was a member of South Bay Chapel, South Bay.
Besides her husband, she leaves five sons, Leroy Congdon, St. Louis, Mo.; Walter Congdon, Westmoreland; Milton E. Congdon, Rome; John Congdon, Stockbridge, and Russell Congdon, Vernon; five brothers, Clarence Gates, Florida; Harold Gates, Utica; John Gates, Whitesboro; Walter Gates, Whitesboro, and Ernest Gates, Florida, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Stillwell, Whitesboro, and Mrs. Henry Brown, Clinton.
The funeral was Friday from the Owens Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, New Hartford, next spring. Clinton Courier, Thursday, Jan. 8, 1970
