U.S. Congressman. He engaged in agricultural pursuits and was a member of the Virginia State Assembly, 1833. In 1841, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress, serving until 1843. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was appointed by President Buchanan receiver of public moneys at Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, serving (1857-60) and resumed his agricultural pursuits until his death.
