BICKNELL, WARREN, JR. (5 Sept. 1902-23 April 1975), leader in both business and PHILANTHROPY, founded the BICKNELL FUND with his wife, Kate Hanna Bicknell. He was born in Wheaton, IL, to Ann Guthrie Bicknell and Warren Bicknell, Sr. By the fourth grade, his family lived in CLEVELAND HEIGHTS and he attended UNIVERSITY SCHOOL. He graduated from Taft School (CT), and Williams College (1925). Bicknell served as president of his father's business, the Cleveland Construction Co. from 1940 until retiring in 1969. President of the BUILDERS EXCHANGE (1945-46), he was also a director of the M. A. HANNA CO., Union Salt, the National Acme Company (see ACME-CLEVELAND CORP.), the Cleveland Storage Company, and the Society for Savings Bank (see SOCIETY CORP.), among other corporations, and of philanthropic entities such as Advisory Services, Inc. In the realms of EDUCATION and HIGHER EDUCATION, Bicknell served as a trustee of Williams College, LAUREL SCHOOL and the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio. He was a life member of the BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA (BSA).

Bicknell married Kate Hanna, granddaughter of Howard M. Hanna, Sr. They lived in Chardon with their four children. Buried in Thomasville, GA, Bicknell has a memorial headstone in LAKE VIEW CEMETERY.
