Sister Rita Wilhelm (formerly Teressa), School Sister of Notre Dame Died at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown, Ontario on April 30, 2011 in her 66th year as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She was born in Waterloo in 1926. Predeceased by her parents, Simon and Theresa (Weiler) Wilhelm. Lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community, relatives and friends. Sister Rita started her teaching career at St. Mary's School, Cambridge. Then, she taught at St. John's School, Kitchener. At the following schools she had the added responsibility as principal - St. Teresa's and Sacred Heart, Kitchener; St. Mary's, Owen Sound; and St. Mary's, Elora. Afterward, she moved to Notre Dame of St. Agatha where she was the director. Sister Rita's years at Sacred Heart School in Walkerton came to an end when she was appointed administrator of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in England. In 1980 Sister Rita was elected as Provincial Councillor of the Canadian Province of the congregation, a position which she held for eight years. From 1989 to 1996 Sister Rita was treasurer at Notre Dame College in Waterloo. During her years of semi-retirement Sister Rita, an only child, attended to the care of her mother who died at the age of 103. Sister Rita was friendly with everyone and always sensitive to the needs of others. Visitors will be received at Notre Dame Convent on Tuesday, May 3 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-8:30pm. Prayer service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 4 at 10:30am. Interment at Notre Dame Convent Cemetery.

Notre Dame Convent Cemetery, Snake Road, Waterdown, was closed in 2019 and all remains were moved to Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
