In 1881 the extended family moved to Aitkin, Minnesota. William was working as an overnight watchman on the Steamer Fawn on the Mississippi during a trip from Aitkin to Grand Rapids, and fell overboard and drowned in 1885. A few years later Margaret and most of her adult sons moved to Duluth where she died, age 57 in 1896.
Her death record gives her parents as Thomas and Margaret Toner.
They had 7 children, all sons. Samuel, James, Robert, George, William Thomas, Frederick and Alfred.
