US Congressman. Born near Moores Hill, Indiana, he attended Moores Hill College, Central Normal College, Vorhies Business College and taught school in Dearborn County Indiana, (1896-98). He moved to Batesville, Ripley County, in 1899, where he became successful engaging in the manufacture of furniture, plus farming and banking. In 1923, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1933. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the furniture manufacturing business, until his death at age 69 in Batesville, Indiana.
