Passed Away at Home of Daughter on Hogan Hill

Elias C. Canfield, aged seventy-two, retired farmer, and father of Congressman Harry c. Canfield, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louis Meyer, of Hogan Hill, where he had made his home since the death of Mrs. Canfield some three months ago.

For many years Mr. Canfield was engaged in farming in the vicinity of Hogan Hill, where his family was reared. He retired from the farm several years ago and moved to Batesville where he has since resided.

Mr. Canfield was a member of Hogan Hill Baptist church, and was ever held in high esteem by the people of Dearborn, and Ripley counties, always recognized as an honorable upright citizen. He was a member of the Masonic order and Eastern Star of Batesville.

Funeral was held at the Hogan Hill Baptist church Tuesday at 2 o'clock, Conducted by rev. C.J. Casey of Hope, Ind., after which his body was laid to rest beside that of his wife in the family grave lot in the Hogan Hill church cemetery.

He is survived by his son Harry, of Batesville, and three daughters, Mrs. Louis Meyer and Mrs. John McMullen of Hogan Hill and Mrs. Claude Cross of Spokane, Wash.

Elias C. Canfield, age seventy-two, retired farmer and father of Harry Canfield, representative in the congress from the Fourth district, died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louis Meyer, of Hogan Hill, Dearborn county, where he had made his home since the death of his wife three months ago.

He was engaged in farming in Dearborn county for many years, but retired when he removed to Batesville several years ago. Besides Mrs. Meyer and Harry Canfield, two daughters, Mrs. Claude Cross, of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. John McMullen, of Hogan Hill, survive. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Meyer Tuesday afternoon.
