Aaron was born in Ohio in May of 1835, the son of George and Elizabeth McElwee. He enlisted in Company D of the 30th Infantry of Illinois and was promoted to a full 1st Lieutenant in 1865. After the war, he returned home to Guernsey County, Ohio to farm with his father and brothers. After his father's death in 1880 he suddenly appeared in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania where he lived with his wife Jennie until his death from apoplexy in June of 1913. His wife Jennie is buried in Greenwood in another section. Information from the death certificate. Born May 29, 1835. He was a carpenter and married at the time of death. His mother's maiden name was LaLollett. He died of apoplexy at #203 15th Street in Sharpsburg and was buried on June 13, 1913 from the Holzheimer & Bock Funeral Home of Sharpsburg.
