James Milton Blackwood - (born ca. 1806 South Carolina died Jan. 10, 1878 Newton County, Arkansas). Married Mary Brooks ca. 1829 in South Carolina. LDS Film #1985436. Mary may have been a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. At the time of the 1850 U.S. census they were living on a farm in West Armuchy, Walker County, Georgia with nine children, eight of them born in South Carolina prior to 1855. They moved from South Carolina to Georgia in about 1853. Adeline, their eldest child, had married and left home by census time. Two of their three sons are believed to have been killed in a U.S. Civil War ambush in 1862. He married a second time 14 May 1862 in Carroll County, Arkansas to Asberine H. POSEY Davis, had 13 children with the two women.
His First Wife: Mary Brooks (born 1808 Georgia died 1859 Carroll County, Arkansas). She was still alive and living in Walker County, Georgia with nine of her 11 children at the time of the 1850 census.
Their Eleven Children:
1. Daughter - Adeline Blackwood or Margaret Adaline Blackwood (born ca. 1828 South Carolina died ?) Married Isaac Pack ca. 1846 in South Carolina.
2. Son - William James Blackwood (born 1830 South Carolina died 1862 or 1863 Newton County, Arkansas) LDS Film#1985492. Married Sarah Caroline Wheeler ca. 1857. Killed by bushwackers circa 1862 in Newton County, Arkansas. William was also listed as a farmer in the 1850 census at age 20.
3. Daughter - Jane Blackwood (born 1831 South Carolina died ?) LDS Film #1985288. May also have married a member of the Pack family.
4. Son - John J. Blackwood (born 1833 South Carolina died 1862 in Arkansas) LDS Film # 1985492. Killed by bushwackers with his brother William in 1862 in Newton County, Arkansas.
5. Daughter - Malinda J. Blackwood (born 1836 in South Carolina died ? after 1910, South Carolina) LDS Film # 1985288. Married Dosswell Holt before 1859, she was alive in 1910, known as Linda, three of their five children were still living. They were living in Richland Township, Newton County, Arkansas at census time.
6. Daughter - Nancy Ann Blackwood (born 1838 or 1839 in South Carolina died ?) LDS Film # 1985288. Thrice married: Tolliver P. Davis July 6, 1849, Arkansas (four children); Joseph Smith; a man named Bell.
7. Daughter - Mary Anne Blackwood or Mary C. Blackwood (born Sept. 11, 1841 or Nov. 9, 1841 in South Carolina died Feb. 1, 1911 Newton County, Arkansas) Buried in New Cowell Cemetery, Newton County, Arkansas. LDS Film #1985281. Married Benton Columbus Davis Oct. 25, 1857 Pleasant Hill, DeKalb County, Georgia. They had 10 children.
8. Son - Chesterfield Martin Blackwood (born 1842 South Carolina died 1864 to 1866) LDS Film #1985492. Married Rachel Owens ca. 1861 in Newton County, Arkansas, no children. He was the second of her five husbands.
9. Daughter - Harriet E. Blackwood (born 1845 South Carolina died Nov. 22, 1898 Newton County, Arkansas) LDS Film # 1985408. Married Harvey Houston of Newton County, Arkansas ca. 1867, they had three children.
10. Daughter - Martha L. Blackwood (born 1848 or 1849 Walker County, Georgia died Feb. 20, 1930 Pope County, Arkansas) LDS Film 1985408. Married John W. Dildine Nov. 11, 1873 Newton County, Arkansas; then Wiley "Yank" Williams, Nov. 14, 1889 Newton County, Arkansas. She was living in 1910 in Newtown County, Arkansas.
11. Daughter - Anna Belle Blackwood (born ca. 1851 South Carolina died ?) LDS Film # 1985288.Married twice, to Tolliver Davis with whom she had a son, then Joseph Smith. No record of children with him.

12. Son - Milton Blackwood (born 1867 Carroll County, Arkansas died ?) Married Tennessee Middleton Dec. 29, 1887 in Newton County, Arkansas. He was filing land claims in Newton County for 136.8 acres in 1904, and at that time he was married to a woman named Mollie Epperson. No children with either.
13. Son - Hesikiah Blackwood (born 1870 Newton County, Arkansas died ?). Known in the family as "Ki,"
