Ronald "Ron" Hoyt Bates and his twin brother Donald were born Dec. 4, 1955 in Chehalis, Washington to Ronald and Louise Bates. Ron passed away unexpectedly Jan. 30, 2022 at his home in Tenino, Washington.

Ron was raised in Galvin, Washington where he and his brother explored the hills and woods. He was an avid outdoorsman. In their teens, Ron and his brother looked forward to starting their summer sports climbing Mount St. Helens every Memorial Day. He was a member of the NRA, The Pe Ell Sportsman Club, and The Evergreen Trap Shooting Club, winning the Washington State Junior Trap Shooting Championship one year.

Ron graduated from Centralia High School in 1975. After graduating, he went to work in his father's construction company. Ron and Don started their own logging company "Bates Bros Logging" and continued to work with their dad. Ron recently retired from the Intercity Transit Department in Olympia.

He attended Central Bible Evangelical Free Church.

Ron is survived by his wife Darlean of Tenino; son Joseph Bates of Mississippi; his parents Ronald and Louise Bates of Galvin; brother Donald (Vera) of Centralia; stepdaughters Michelle Bradner of Tenino and Virginia Blair of Tacoma; stepsons Jeremy Bonagofski of Chehalis and Tim Bradner of Chehalis; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ron was a gentle, kind man who was delighted in helping others, as well as taking care of his family. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
