U.S. Congressman. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1848, moved through various states and finally settled in Rochester, Missouri. There he engaged in mercantile pursuits and was a member of the Missouri State House of Representatives, in 1875. In 1879, he was elected as a Greenbacker National Party to the Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1883. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he moved to Virginia City, Nevada and was member of the first city council. After leaving politics, he relocated to Kansas and lived in retirement until his death at age 63.
