U.S. Congressman. He attended the Pestalostian School, graduated from Ohio University in 1833 and from Cincinnati Medical College in 1836. He then taught school (1837-40) and established a medical practice in Chillicothe, Ohio. Entering politics, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh Congresses, serving (195-63). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his medical practice until his death.
