J.J. SPARKS HIT BY NUMBER 39 AT WENATCHEE WED.
Drove On Track With Auto As Train Approached; Condition Serious
J.J. Sparks, manager of the Standard Oil interests at Wenatchee, was hit by No. 39 Wednesday noon as that train was pulling into the county seat. He approached the track from the south and was not seen by the engineer, Harry Jones, until his auto, a Dodge, was hit. The car was completely demolished and Mr. Sparks was severely injured and unconscious. He was taken to the Deaconess hospital and yesterday noon the report was that he was earlier in the day still under the influence of ether, administered for the purpose of operating soon after he reached the hospital. It is said that he suffered a fracture of the forehead and possible injury at the base of the brain.
