Elgar Thune, originally from Albert Lea, MN was an outstanding athlete who earned his way through college (St. Olaf) on an athletic scholarship. He taught & coached at Fargo/Moorhead where his team took state championships. (Records from Moorhead H.S.show he coached there 1924-1925 with a 5 win 3 loss record. He is listed as Coach Elgar "Cherry" Thune)

The family moved out east where Elgar became a president of Prudential Insurance. They later moved to Chicago where Elgar ran another insurance company. (Elgar & his wife Ruth were divorced & Ruth raised their 5 children.)
