Raymond enlisted in the Army on January 12, 1942 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as an Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.
He was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Maddox had been working in a Navy powder factory before joining the army in January 1942.
He would participate in the invasions of Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and New Georgia where he was wounded.
Despite racking up more then enough points to be discharged, Raymond remained in the fight. He had received a presidential unit citation, however sadly on May 14th he was killed in the fighting in Luzon.
