Mrs. Amanda Allen
A long-time resident of La Porte City, Mrs. Amanda Allen, 78, died at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Wednesday, Jan. 16th, following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian church in La Porte City, conducted by Rev. W.A. Thompson, pastor.
As Amanda Woods, she was born June 16th, 1884 at Atkins, Iowa, daughter of John C. and Jane Woods. She was married to Merton F. Allen on February 8, 1912, who preceded her in death April 1, 1956. She was a member of the Presbyterian church. She is survived by one son Frank of La Porte City, Mrs. Walter (Addie) Newton of Mason City, Iowa, Mrs. Ben (Rachel) Newton of Chino, Calif., and Mrs. Melvin (Lola) Burkley of Garrison; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers.
Johannsen-Rossow Funeral Home were in charge of services and burial was made in West View cemetery here. Pallbearers were Lawrence Kahler, Ralph Struve, Clifford Williams, Charles Chalupsky, Glenn Burrows and Russell Arthur.
