Services for Major Harry Lee Butler, USAF, Retired, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at St. Clair Baptist Church, Gardner, with Reverends Randy Ellis and Ronnie Parks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
The family requests that visitation be observed Tuesday at St. Clair Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Mr. Butler, 94, of Elmer passed from this life, Friday, April 6, 2018 at Marigold House, Alexandria.
Harry was a born in Morehouse Parish and attended High School in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps one month after Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to an Aviation Ordnance Company and was sent overseas without basic training. He received his first payday in Brisbane, Australia. He remained in the Pacific theater of operation for 37 months before reassignment to the United States. After World War II, Sgt. Butler elected to remain in the military and when the Air Force became a separate entity and began training its own officers, Sgt. Butler was selected for the first class. Upon graduation he was commissioned a Lieutenant, he retired from the Air Force in 1948.
Soon after retirement from the Air Force, Harry was recruited by the Air Force to become a Civilian Employee with duty station at Barksdale Air Force Base. After more than two years at Barksdale Air Force Base, he accepted a position at England Air Force Base. Harry retired from Civil Service in 1983.
In 1947, Harry married Mavis Joan Sheppard from Brisbane, Australia. They enjoyed 64 years together.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mavis Joan Sheppard Butler; daughter, Janette Lee Butler Autry; parents, William C. and Eva Mae Butler; brothers, Carlos Ray and Henry Grady Butler; sisters, Hazel Marie Butler Sutton, Mae Hope Butler Hester and Martha Francis Butler Harvey.

Those left to cherish his memory include sons and their families, Thomas Gerald Butler, William Russell Butler, Richard Lewis Butler, Stanley Clyde Butler; 12 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sister, Effie Lou Butler Denenea, brothers, Clinton J. Butler and Owen C. Butler, and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be his great grandsons.
