Ms. Hester, a resident of Orlando, FL, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014. She was a long-time resident of Morehouse Parish before moving to Lake Claiborne near Homer, LA. During her years of employment, Ms. Hester was Director of Accounting at Morehouse General Hospital and later retired from the Louisiana Department of Corrections where she served as Administrative Director at Wade Correctional Center in Homer, Louisiana. After a move back to Morehouse Parish after retirement, Ms. Hester later moved to Orlando, FL to be near family.
Ms. Hester was a member of Memorial Methodist Church where she served as an active member and volunteer until her move to Florida. Being a true Proverbs 31 Woman, Ms. Hester was happiest when helping and serving others. Mae-Mae, as she was affectionately known by many, touched countless lives and was very much loved and cherished by her devoted family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Lewis C. Hester, Jr. of Green Bay, WI, Bruce S. Hester of Smyrna, GA; daughter, Lynette H. Peters of Orlando, FL; brothers, Harry L. Butler, Henry G. Butler, C. Jeptha Butler, Owen C. Butler; sister, Effie L. Denenea; grandchildren, Emily Hope Pearson and husband Jonathan, Sarah M. Simmons and husband Matthew, Tanja M. Hester and husband Mark Bunge, Lindsey M. Vondenstein and husband John, Miranda Mae Johnson and husband Phillip, Adam Chesley Hester, Leeza M. Hester and eight great-grandchildren.
Ms. Hester is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lewis C. Hester; parents, William and Eva Butler; brother, Carlos R. Butler; sisters, Hazel M. Sutton and Martha F. Harvey.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Adam Hester, Mason Vondenstein, John Vondenstein, Philip Johnson, Mark Bunge and Matthew Simmons.
