Wandaleen Allen, 77, of Herrick, died Wednesday at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, after over five years of battling cancer. Although her body was ravaged by the disease, her death was peaceful and painless. She was born in Milmine, IL, on July 23, 1929, the daughter of Clarence and Rosie (Taylor) Manley. She married Coy J. Allen on January 18, 1948, in Niantic. Wandaleen retired from Milliken University in 1980 after over 15 years of service.
She has been a Christian more than 40 years, after being baptized for the remission of sin following a confession of her belief that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and our Savior. She has remained true to that confession.
Surviving are her husband Coy J. Allen of Herrick, IL; three children, Jerry and wife Cheryl of Spring, TX, Tom and wife Charity of Marlboro, MA, and Wanda King and husband John of Olathe, KS; three grandchildren, Angela (Allen) Clark of Mt. Zion, Jason Allen of Tomball, TX, and Rhonda (Schoby) Burke, of Springfield, OH; and six great grandchildren, Kolby, Kaden, Ashlyn and Kameron Clark, and Shauna and Mason Burke. She was the sister of Betty Tucker of Decatur, Keith Manley of Harristown, and Warren Manley of Auburn, CA. Her mother, father and one infant son, Richard, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26 at the McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, 308 E. 2nd Street, Pana, with visitation starting one hour before. Entombment will be in Oconee Mound Cemetery.
