US Congressman, US Senator, Virginia Governor. Served in the Revolutionary War and commanded George Washington's Life Guard. He was elected as a Senator from Virginia to the United States Senate, serving from 1799 to 1804. He was then elected to represent Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1807 to 1809. Served as Governor of Virginia from 1814 to 1816.
