Doris I. Rigby, 94, of Hillcrest Avenue, New Castle, went to be with the Lord the evening of April 20, 2011.

Born November 12, 1916, in Beaver Falls, Doris was a daughter of the late Ambrose U. and Myrtle Leah Smith Adams. She attended Massillon Ohio Grade School. Doris married Avery Rigby on June 18, 1936. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1996. Dori was employed as a retail sales clerk and worked for many small boutiques in New Castle and Texas. She also worked for J.C.Penney and Strouss Hirshberg. Doris enjoyed reading, knitting, cooking, and needle work. She loved people and loved taking care of her family. Doris had a great love of sacred music. She was a member of First Alliance Church and served her church faithfully by teaching Sunday school and Daily Vacation Bible school. She was a member of the Cecilia Lewis Bible class, Christian Women's Club, the Alliance Women's Club.

Doris is survived by her two daughters, Sylvia Canis, and husband Paul, of New Castle, and Valerie Sassaman, and husband Bill, of Beaver, PA; a son, Rev. Charles S. Rigby, and wife Ethel, of Celebration, FL; a brother, Rev. Jack Adams, of Ft. Myers, FL; three sisters, Sue Patton, Olive Hemminger, and Dolly Bovard, all of New Castle; ten grandchildren, Paul Canis Jr., Christopher Canis, Jonathan Canis, Cynthia L. Rigby, Charles Scott Rigby, Mark A. Rigby, Jennifer (Sassaman) Metzger, Stephen Sassaman, Andrew Sassaman and Philip Sassaman; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by four sisters, Nellie Constance, Bertha Filer, Wilna M. Owens, and O. Lauretta Roberts; and by three brothers, George Cameron, Robert and Charles Adams.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the R. CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at First Alliance Church, 111 Mission Meade Drive.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Thomas Barnts and Doris' son, the Rev. Charles S. Rigby, will be officiating.

Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
