Ruth Alma Boppe, 89, of Winchester, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Westminster Canterbury.

Mrs. Boppe was born Oct. 4, 1912, in Hagerstown, Md., the daughter of Brown C. and Reba Slifer Long. She was a retired bookkeeper with Karper's Trucking Co. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Philia Class of the church.

She married Martin L. "Marty" Boppe Jr. on Dec. 24, 1936, in Hagerstown. Mr. Boppe died May 6, 1994. Surviving are two sons, M. Lee Boppe of Winchester and Larry E. Boppe of Cornelius, N.C.; a sister, Blance Litten of Hagerstown; three brothers, Lawrence Long of Williamsport, Md., Omer Long of Hagerstown, and Raymond Long of Wales, Maine; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with Pastor George Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeffery S. Boppe, W. Bruce Boppe, E. Scott Robertson, Daniel S. Robertson, and Daniel R. Cook, and her nephew, Omer Long Jr.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester.

Memorials may be made to the Philia Class, of the First Baptist Church, 205 West Piccadilly St., Winchester 22601.
