Carole Ruth Fletcher Martin was the first of two children born to Rodney Herman Fletcher and Vernice Ponton Fletcher, in New York City, New York March 31, 1940.

Born in Harlem but raised in the Bronx and Jamaica, Queens County, NY, she was educated in the public school system, graduating from Walton High. She attended NYU, but completed her Paralegal associates program at the University of Maryland. She met her husband, Edward Martin, on a blind date in spring l957. They were married September 26, 1959 at Saint Pascal Catholic Church in Jamaica, Queens County, NY.

Carole was an administrator in Connecticut, then became a stay-at-home mom. When she returned to the paid workforce, she was employed by the Montgomery County [Maryland] Government where she held several positions over 26 years. She retired from Contract Management in the Department of Health and Human Services in June of 2008.

Carole loved her family. She loved life and she loved to read. She was a genuine caregiver. She cared for everyone around her. A woman of integrity and honesty, her friends were friends for life. She spoke her mind but with compassion. It was important that Carole's children got the best of her, the best education, the best home and the best life. Her hobbies included reading, music, dancing, collecting owls and Genealogy. Her passion was her grandchildren.

Carole died peacefully on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, and is survived by her husband Edward Eugene Martin; two sons, Gary (Saudeia)and Scott (Cherita); her mother, Vernice Fletcher; and her sister, Laura Faulding. She has five grandchildren -- Camryn, Jayden, Jaidah, Mekhiya, and Evan -- and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
