Jacob Yoder, a native of Germany, was an early settler, and passed his days on a farm near Berlin, in this county [Somerset]. His son Joseph came to Conemaugh township in 1809, having purchased from his father a farm of two hundred acres, formerly owned by Samuel Speicher. He was engaged in distilling between the years 1828 and 1845. He died in 1852. His wife was Elizabeth Speicher, and their children were Tobias (deceased), Joseph, Jacob, Elizabeth (Kauffman), Isaac and Levi. Levi Yoder bought the homestead farm of this father, in 1849. He owns seven hundred and fifty acres of land. Mr. Yoder has been school-director, and has held other local offices.
