Dykes Catrett, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
He was born March 16, 1930, in Walton County, Fla., to John and Julia Mitchell Catrett. Mr. Catrett was Baptist by faith and attended Cluster Springs Baptist Church and Hurlburt Field Chapel. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and the Vietnam era, serving his country in the U.S. Air Force for over 26 years before retiring as a chief master sergeant. He also worked in civil service at Hurlburt Field as a billeting manager.
Mr. Catrett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma McBroom Catrett; one daughter, Norma Simmons; seven brothers, Emmitt, John, Edward, Samuel, Griffin, Ottis and Gerald; two sisters, Theresa Busby and Marice Grippo; and one granddaughter, Michelle. Mr. Catrett is survived by his daughter, Margaret Hunt and husband, Lance, of Odem, Texas; one brother, Roy Catrett and wife, Elsie, of Butler, Ala.; one sister, Audrey Davis and husband, M.C., of Butler, Ala.; five grandchildren, Amy, Pamela, Paula, Michael and Amanda; and five great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the funeral home with the Rev. Curtis Jetton officiating.
