Lula Jessie Thayer, 91, formerly of North Platte, died April 19, 2004, at York.She was born Dec. 12, 1912, in Dickens to Daniel and Nora Latimer Jolliff.She married Harley Zeigler Feb. 13, 1932, in North Platte. They operated a dairy for 13 years. He preceded her in death in 1968. She was also employed at Lyon's IGA, Fairmont Foods, McDonald's Ready to Wear, and Adams Junior High Cafeteria. In 1976, she married Fora Thayer. He preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Thayer was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was past president of Lutheran Church Women, BPO Does, Eagles, Past Matron of Order of Eastern Star, Past District President of American Legion Auxiliary, North Platte Shrine Auxiliary and Past Social Order of Beauceant. She loved doing volunteer work and helping others. Survivors include a son, Merlin Zeigler of Grand Island; two stepsons, Dwain (Cathy) Thayer of Placentia, Calif., and Ernest (Carol) Thayer of Hastings; a stepdaughter, Dona (Dean) Ostergaard of Woodland, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and seven sisters. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund or Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
