William was the son of John Roy Kennedy and Roseta "Rose" Tilda Jane Kennedy. He married Effie Eburn Calvert about 1919.

Their known children: Coweta K Hutchinson, Robbie Pauline Floyd, Norma Jo Aldridge, Dana Bea Parsons and Robert D Kennedy.

Bill Kennedy was musically inclined. He played in the band wih his cousin: A.B. Rucks (Arbith Brownloe) also nicked name, Brownie. They played for the "George Roger's & Cookson Hill Ramblers", which was featured on KBIX radio station in Braggs, Oklahoma.

The manager of the band, George Rogers was a Cherokee Indian and could play an instrument with either his right or left hand. This feat in itself was quite amazing to watch.

Bill played the stand up bass instrument and Brownie played the tenor banjo.
