Ida performed in Burlesque and Vaudeville from 1895 - 1920 under the stage name Maryland Tyson. She was born in Baltimore to Frank H L and Mary E (Mormann) Tiemann. She was one of 11 children.

Two other sisters also performed in acts and sometimes they were billed together as The Tyson Sisters. Sisters Elizabeth and Anna completed the Tyson sisters as Lillian and Virginia Tyson.
