Melvin Lee Shackelford was born November 24, 1949, in Carnegie Oklahoma to Leonard and Mattie Powers Shackelford. He grew up at Swan Lake and attended Eakly High School where he was Valedictorian of the class of 1968. After High School he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam from August 27, 1969 to August 21, 1970 as a Field Radio Operator/Radio Telephone Operator. His Awards include the Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallentry w/Palm & Frame.

After returning home, he began a career at 3M Corporation in Weatherford, retiring as a Supervisor after more then 30 years. He enjoyed Hunting, Fishing, OU Football, and just driving the countryside.

Melvin passed away on April 8, 2011 in Bessie Oklahoma after a long battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Ruben and Mattie May Powers Shackelford, His brother Bobby Shackelford and his sister Nancy Sue Shackelford Klein.

Melvin is survived by three brothers Leonard Olen Shackelford, Kenneth Earl Shackelford of Bessie Oklahoma, and Jimmy Clyde Shackelford and wife Carol of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
