Mrs. Careen Lois Van Dyke, age 75, of Florence, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001.The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Spry-Serenity Chapel of Florence, with Brother Perry Taylor, Brother James Hendrix and Brother Fred Dillon officiating.Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.Mrs. Van Dyke was a native and lifelong resident of Lauderdale County. She was a member of Woodlawn Church of Christ. She was retired from Muscle Shoals Technical College.She is survived by her husband, Kenneth V. Van Dyke of Florence; son, Col. Melvin Ray Van Dyke and wife, Cathy, of Fort Gordon, Ga.; sisters, Lila Steen of Center Star, Georgia Joiner and husband, John, of Elgin, and Dulus Parker of Center Star; sisters-in-law, Lucy Gautney of Waterloo, Bam Gautney of Florence, Polly Gautney of Sheffield, and Kathleen Gautney of Elgin. Grandchildren are Dr. Melissa Kesler and husband, Andrew, Matthew Van Dyke and Rachel Van Dyke. Several nieces and nephews are survived.Pallbearers will be Glenn Gautney, Larry McGee, Gaylon Gray, Ron Lumpkins, Dale Azbell and C.W. OKelley.Honorary bearers will be: Reeder Allen, J.C. Frye, Elmo Wilson, Larry Gautney and Bill Steen. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and staff at E.C.M. Hospital.Spry-Serenity Chapel of Florence directing.
